Slap City is a crossover platform fighting game featuring characters and locations from games by the development team, Ludosity. It was officially released on September 17th, 2020, but had been available in early access on Steam since December 2017. On September 23rd, 2022, a version for Nintendo Switch was released, featuring crossplay between PC and Switch for online matches.

Overview

Characters

Slap City currently features 11 different playable characters.

Stages

There are currently 34 versus mode stages and 6 Slap Ball stages.

Modes

Slap City features various single and multiplayer game modes.

  • Versus mode
    • 1v1s, free-for-alls, and team battles of any configuration.
  • Story Mode
    • Fight through platforming stages and versus mode battles, with unique stories for each of the first 8 characters.
  • Arcade mode
    • Battle different characters in versus mode battles, with a few mini-games in between.
  • Slap Ball
    • A special game mode where players try to hit the Slap Ball into a goal. Hitting the ball multiple times before it touches the ground increases the points gained on a goal.
  • Smack the Crystals
  • Training mode

Mechanics

  • Clutch
    • An input that can perform many actions.
  • Attributes
    • The stats of each character.

Other

  • Outfits that give each character a new look or replaces them with other characters.

Online

Slap City has online play through delay-based peer-to-peer netcode. Play via lobbies or ranked matchmaking. Ranked mode has mini-games to entertain you while you queue. Crossplay is available between PC and Switch players.

History

The initial concept for Slap City began as a potential mini-game for Ittle Dew 2, and was meant to resemble Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64.[1]
